The race is open to all cyclists aged 16 and over, competing in an individual time trial format. The top 10 of each category from the qualifier advance to a final heat where the winners will be decided. This unique event combines adrenaline, raw power, and a festive local atmosphere.

    The 5 Cumes de Barcelos is a major MTB marathon held in northern Portugal, organized by the Amigos da Montanha – Associação de Montanhismo de Barcelinhos. Scheduled for 28 September 2025, it features two scenic and challenging mountain biking routes that cross multiple iconic peaks (cumes) in the municipality of Barcelos. The Maratona 5 Cumes covers approximately 77 km, while the Meia Maratona 3 Cumes spans 48 km.

    Riders start and finish in the city center of Barcelos, navigating demanding terrain with elevation gains and technical descents. The event is open to both male and female athletes, including para-athletes and e-bike participants, with age categories from Juniors to Masters 65+. Participation is limited to 2,000 riders—1,000 per distance. Strict timing, wave start boxes, and mandatory checkpoints ensure fair competition.

    Both routes pass through natural areas and ridgelines, highlighting the region’s rugged beauty. The 5 Cumes event is more than just a race—it includes a community-focused atmosphere with post-race food, prize ceremonies, and a celebratory draw. The organization places a strong emphasis on safety, logistics, and environmental respect.

  • TAVIRA GRANFONDO

    TAVIRA GRANFONDO

    The Tavira Granfondo is a non-competitive cycling event that will take place on September 28, 2025, in Tavira, Portugal. Designed to be inclusive and accessible to all cycling enthusiasts, it features three distances: Granfondo (approx. 135 km), Mediofondo (approx. 95 km), and Minifondo (approx. 55 km). Participants must be at least 19 years old for the Granfondo and 17 for the Mediofondo and Minifondo. The event is organized as a leisure ride on open public roads and complies with the Portuguese Cycling Federation’s guidelines for “Provas Abertas” (Open Races), as well as the national traffic code. It highlights Tavira’s scenic beauty and cultural richness, making it a blend of sport, tourism, and local tradition. Although not competitive, electronic chip timing and rankings will be used. Trophies will be awarded in several individual and team categories, including special awards for paracycling.

    The event starts and finishes at Avenida Zeca Afonso in Tavira. After an initial controlled 3 km segment, participants proceed at free pace. All riders are required to wear an approved helmet and follow traffic laws at all times. Participants may use road bikes, mountain bikes, tandem, or hand bikes, but electric bikes are not permitted. The organization provides a welcoming environment, technical support, mechanical aid, aid stations, and a post-race lunch.

    XIV Maratona BTT Cidade de Faro

    The XIV Maratona BTT – Cidade de Faro returns on September 28, 2025, bringing the vibrant cycling spirit of the Algarve to the town of Estoi. More than just a race, it is part of the Faro Ativo program, combining sport, culture, and community in a unique event that gathers MTB enthusiasts from all over the region.

    Participants will challenge themselves on two routes: the 55 km Marathon, with around 900 meters of elevation gain, designed for experienced riders looking for a demanding and competitive challenge, and the 35 km Half-Marathon, with 580 meters of elevation gain, ideal for those who prefer a shorter yet equally exciting course. Both distances also feature an E-Bike category, ensuring inclusivity and wider participation.

    The event also celebrates the legacy of cycling in Faro with the João da Roda Trophy, a team classification honoring one of the pioneers of the sport in the region.
