Event summary

The 8th São Macário Ultra Trail (SMUT) will take place on November 8–9, 2025, in Sul, São Pedro do Sul, Portugal. Organized by GTT.SPS – Grupo Todo Terreno São Pedro do Sul, with the support of the local municipality and regional associations, the event explores the rugged and scenic Serra da Arada (São Macário), part of the Montanhas Mágicas.

The program includes four distances: the Ultra Trail (49 km, +3200 m D+), the Trail (29 km, +1600 m D+), the Trail Sprint (19 km, +870 m D+), and the Mini-Trail/Walk (9 km, +250 m D+). With varied levels of difficulty, from beginner-friendly hikes to demanding endurance challenges, the SMUT is designed for trail enthusiasts of all levels.

All races start and finish in Sul village, combining a festive community spirit with a demanding mountain running experience in central Portugal.

  • Nov 9 (Sunday) – Trail 29 km – 08:00 (limit: 9h)

  • Nov 9 (Sunday) – Trail Sprint 19 km – 09:00 (limit: 6h)

  • Nov 9 (Sunday) – Mini-Trail/Walk 9 km – 09:15 (limit: 3h)

Cut-off times:

  • Ultra Trail – 14h (checkpoint cut-offs apply)

Course type: Mountain trails – dirt paths, stones, some asphalt/cobbles.

Timing: Chip timing for all timed events.

Mandatory gear: Individual container, mobile phone, whistle, thermal blanket, headlamp (Ultra only).

Aid stations: Multiple points with water, fruits, nuts, chips, juice (no cups provided – bring your own).

Prizes: Trophies for top 3 male/female overall and by age group (Ultra, Trail, Sprint, Mini-Trail) + largest team award.
