Event summary
The 2nd Global Ocean Sagres Crossing will take place on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Praia da Mareta, Sagres – the southernmost beach of mainland Portugal. Organized by Global Ocean and Maresia Associação Recreativa, in collaboration with the Municipality of Vila do Bispo, Algarve Swimming Association, and under the rules of the Portuguese Swimming Federation, this open water event promotes environmental awareness and ocean protection.
Two distances will be held:
600m (open to all from age 10)
2,000m (official, open and licensed swimmers from 2010/2011 and older)
The race is part of the Feira do Mar event, offering a unique swimming experience near the iconic Fortaleza de Sagres.

Schedule:
• 09:30 – Opening of Race Office
• 10:30 – Close of check-in for 600m
• 11:00 – 600m race start
• 11:00 – Close of check-in for 2,000m
• 11:30 – 2,000m race start
Start Format:
• Beach start for both races
• All swimmers must wear the official race cap and ankle chip
Eligibility:
• 600m: Open to all from age 10+
• 2,000m: Open to licensed and non-licensed athletes born in 2010 (males) / 2011 (females) and older
Cut-off Times:
• 600m – 30 minutes
• 2,000m – 60 minutes after first finisher
Course:
• 600m – Out-and-back around buoys
• 2,000m – Multi-buoy circuit with safety support throughout
Timing:
• Chip timing system on ankle
• Rankings by absolute and age group categories
Weather Conditions:
• Typical early September weather in Sagres: sunny with ocean temps above 20ºC (wetsuits optional under 22ºC)
